Alene is a Contemporary dance duet about mental illness. The dance performance aims to draw attention towards a subject that throughout history has been quieted down in society and a subject many people find difficult to understand and to talk about. How do we relate to people who suffer from mental disease and what kind of responsibility do we have towards this group of people?
In this 40min show I composed music and did sound design. I mainly used Eurorack modular synthesiser to generate the sound material. Generative patches provided gestural sound textures to compliment the dancers moves. Aided with drum machine and groovebox improvisation, piece was structured around 6 themes varying in density of material (from ambient through beat-based dub to noise).
The show finished with the piece i performed live using sampler (Elektron Octatrack) and portable modular synthesiser. Using Intellijel Shapeshifter, as main sound source generating chords and glitchy sounds that run through Cwejman filters (DMF2 and MMF6). Double Andore’s envelopes were triggered by SSF Ultra Random Analog. The Octatrack was used as sampler, effect and a mixer.
The piece was structured improvisation, I was interacting with the dancers moves by processing tracks, adding extra layers and responding by manipulating synthesis parameters.
